My friend Jon took most of these photos. Thanks Jon! He rode his quad up the hill. Boy was he fast! He had his camera with him and I'll get his photos soon. I'll post more photos, so check this gallery in a few days.
Also, others took photos and can add to this album.
I had a blast! We have to do this often!!!

My camera popped open on the way down .... and I lost all mine ....
Oh and I looked it up ... we were at 8451 ft ....
And it was way faster to go through North Fork ... if we make that climb again we meet in town .... k ???

I've added a few... I'll add more again over the next few days.
I'm having to work on em in photoshop, and I have several pan shots to stitch, I think you guys will love those!
I'm on 56k so you'll have to bear with me... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/laugh3.gif
Also, RadierFan and I took the route over to Beasore Road, and decided since we were only a few miles away to head over to Chilkoot Lake. Man am I glad we did... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif
It's full right now, and I bet it will be great camping. Unfortunately for me, I won't be able to do anything the next couple weekends, but maybe the weekend following...
More pictures coming!
Cheers!

Cool photos! June is pretty busy for me. Perhaps we could plan a trip for the weekend of July 10th/11th? That would give plenty of time to plan. Do you have plans that weekend MtnEagle? Others?

Wow, I didn't know you boys were so fine... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif
I still have yet to see (or meet) the elusive MtnEagle.
I imagine my Subaru would have a hard time keeping up with y'all, but you never know... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/shocked.gif
I just got back a few minutes ago from a memorable ride through Thornberry, (the casino was fun tonite)

I know how great Subarus are, but it may have been a bit rough on your car. Subarus are GREAT snow cars and they do well off roading, but would you freak out when you hear huge rocks banging against the bottom of that nice ride? I sure would. You could have jumped in one of the Jeeps! We had plenty of extra room. Maybe next time?
My Jeep has skid plates. I can bang it and it will not hurt anything. BTW: I lost another part off my Jeep on the trail... when I opened my door, a side plastic piece fell off. I need to get new tabs to put it back on. No big deal.
First the bumper, now the side piece that runs under the doors. I'm glad it's a Jeep and easy to put back together. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif

I have one word for you all that went to Shuteye... jealous!!!
Ug - Fresno? or Shuteye 4x4 trip? Dang - but had to go to Fresno!!!
But, we did make some good finds yesterday out shopping -found a Smith and Wesson for Terry and got all my waterski gear (I've never waterski'd, but its time I learned!)
I love your shots! And I want a picture of our 4x at "Edge of the World" location - what a cool place for a shot!
But, when we read about scraping rocks, we thought... hmmm... maybe we'd just better hitch a ride with one of you next time!
And What a cool lake - Chilrook! Gotta see that some time.

The edge of the world location is towards the bottom of the hard part. You could make it to that spot without scraping, I think. You could park there and catch a ride the rest of the way up. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif

Chilkoot... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif
You take Beasore Road up to the Cold Springs Summit 4-way (all weather bathroom in the parking lot), make a right (heading East). About a mile in there will be a road to the right, take it a little ways and you can either park at the base of the granite domes, or 4x4 right up to the lake the rest of the way.

Sorry, too shallow for anythng but rowing by hand, and a small boat. The lake is certainly wide enough, but not deep enough, and there are all kinds of boulders just under the surface.

It's probably better that way. It keeps it clean and less populated with people.

Swimming is OK... I tested the water temp yesterday when RaiderFan and I were there. The water is great, not cold but not hot either.
Just don't drink any of it...
Giardia / Crypto Sporidium / other nasties... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/shocked.gif

No fish in Chilkoot Lake that I have ever seen...
It's ~25 miles from Oakhurst each way when all is said and done...

Very cool area. Picts are great. My son and I rode quads up there a couple of months ago. What a ride!
