I would only have cosmetic surgery if it was truly necessary. I don't believe in elective surgery, I think there are so many better places the money can be used rather than on vanity. Although I would like my boobs to be back where they were when I was 18. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

I think a lot of cosmetic surgery comes out of laziness or vanity. I see no reason to waste that kind of time, money, or medical experience on such silliness. Not to mention the added risk a person puts themselves in just by going under the knife. However, Im sure there are valid situations that really call for it. Its almost like an abortion debate, isnt it?

Hmmm.. hadn't thought about the paralells of cosmetic surgery to abortion.
I think that if someone wants to fix something like a birth defect, with cosmetic surgery to go for it. Actually if you really feel that your nose has a bump or your boobs sag too much after, um, say for example nursing three kids for 2 years each, then that is okay too.
The people that scare me with cosmetic surgery (not to mention the doctors who do it) with the M size breasts that weigh 20 pounds each. That is terrifying, and maybe the people should of been referred to a psychotherapist instead of a plastic surgeon.
I just thought it was interesting. We were talking about it on another forum, and it wasn't a debate.

I agree with California Girl. Unless one is deformed in someway then I feel it is unnecessary and vain to get that nose bump fixed or your face or boobs lifted. I like my wrinkles, they show that I have lived a full life.

If something was really bothering me and I became self conscience about it, I would have it.
Right now everything is going south but I'm still standing.

As far as face lifts and the such. Seems so obvious when one gets a "lift" or whatever. Makes people look alien. And those are the "famous" people we see everyday, if they look strange after spending 10's of thousands of dollars having their wrinkles stretched or whatever, what does the layman look like?
Burt Reynolds for example.. looks like a freak now.
A good friend of mine is selling Mary Kay now. She tells me that since I am almost 26 I have been missing out on precious time this last year not moisturizing my face, etc. I am going to "look 40 when I am 30" etc. Whatever I say. I won't dye my hair over a grey (my mother started greying at 27 or so-- though she is an addict so who knows what that played into it) and if that happens to me.. oh well. I don't want to spend my life at 26 thinking about 50 and whether or not I will be wrinkly. Blah. More important things in life.

hahahahaa! I have seen those women with the fake beachball-sized boobs on TV and wonder how in the world something so freak-show-ish could ever be viewed as "sexy!" Perfect example of how bigger is not always better.

I am not a big fan of cosmetic surgery. I have been through many surgeries in my life and they were all very painful experiences. It doesn't really make sense to me that someone would go through the pain when its not needed and put their loved ones through the pain. I agree that many times a psychotherapist, instead of a plastic surgeon, would be helpful.
There are certain medical procedures that are needed for health reasons. I think its great that these types of surgeries can help. I know several people that have had gastric bypass surgery and it has improved their quality of life. That's great!
That being said, I also think that a person has the right to do to their body what they choose. So, I'm not gonna be the one to stand up and talk someone out of surgery. It's not my body and not my choice.
However, I would strongly object if my Mother or Sister wanted cosmetic surgery. I don't think they would ever do it though. They were there when I went through all of my operations and it was a painful experience for us all. I'm confident that they would not put me or themselves through that again unless it was needed.

Wow, a lot of judgement in this topic.
I haven't had any plastic surgery, but I'm not against the idea and may have a few things adjusted later in life - why? Because I can.
To each their own. Everyone has their own reasons for having surgery.

I've thought about getting boobs when i'm 50 or 60, just to see what it felt like, and by that point a lot of the non-physical side effects wouldn't matter anymore. But i just don't think i could do it knowing that (if i actually had the money) that the money could go to a friend or family in need. Even if i had been donating/charitable anyway, i just don't think i could choose tits for myself over shelter/food/etc. for someone else.

I've never had any plastic surgery and I'm not planning to...maybe I would if things got real droopy, or maybe I wouldn't care. Never say never, I guess. I'm not perfect now...but I certainly wouldn't opt for surgery at this point. I don't begrudge anyone who wants to put themselves thru it...it's all a matter of personal choice and priority, I suppose. I do think a lifestyle of good diet, exercise, a nice hair cut and style, a good bra, some flattering make-up and a flattering outfit can do wonders for a person...all without going under the knife or being injected with anything. Just hide the flaws and accentuate the positives.
My philosophy is to work with what you have. Make the most of it. We weren't all meant to look the same. And you really can't change your age...so you might as well embrace it.

Had it. Happy with the results. Full abdominoplasty w/lipo. Looks like I had a boob job because my tummy is gone. (Bonus!)
I don't think I would ever touch my face though, but it's great to finally rid myself of that belly, and after three kids & lots of exercise , it wasn't going any other way...
Oh, I didn't do it for anyone but myself, I'm the one who couldn't tie my shoes without a struggle.

It's gonna be funny seeing all of these young girls with fake boobs when they are old and saggy everywhere except for the boobs.

i think it's weird how the fake ones look way too round ... natural ones don't look like balls you'd find in a sports shop!

They have ones now that are teardrop or something like that. Not round.. (don't ask me how I know this)

I think it's okay for people to do plastic surgery if it makes them somehow feel better about themselves.

I can't wait to see 80 wrinkly old women running around with tatoos that are old and wrinkly. Now thats going to be exciting.

Just think though, those tattoos are gonna wind up in some interesting places, LOL. They can finally see them without a mirror, just drag it around from back to front, LOL j/k That's why I've never been tempted with a tattoo, the way I put on weight, who knows where it will end up, but it sure wouldn't be "perky" any more by now. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif

I plan to. I've lost 70 lbs since 2001 and I'm rewarding that effort with having the extra skin removed. I want my pants to fit right; I want to make Epic proud; I don't feel guilty about spending the money on me instead of donating it because I donate enough of my soul to people who don't give a damn about themselves every day; and I donate enough money to charities. The money would be spent on poorly-fitting pants if not on a tummy tuck.

A woman decides to have a facelift for her birthday She spends $5,000 and feels pretty good about the results. On her way home she stops at a newsstand to buy a paper. Before leaving, she asks the sales clerk, "I hope you don't mind my asking, but how old do you think I am?" "About 32", the clerk replies.
"I'm actually 47," the woman says happily.
A little while later, she goes into McDonald's, and upon getting her order, asks the counter girl the same question. She replies, "I'd guess about 29."
The woman replies, "Nope, I am 47." Now she is feeling really good about herself.
While waiting for the bus home, she asks an old man the same question. He replies, "I'm 78 and my eyesight is starting to go. Although, when I was young, there was a sure way to tell how old a woman was, but it requires you to let me put my hands up your shirt and feel your boobs. Then I can tell exactly how old you are."
They waited in silence on the empty street until curiosity got the best of the woman, and she finally said, "What the hell, go ahead."
The old man slips both hands up her shirt, under her bra, and begins to feel around. After a couple of minutes, she says, "Okay, okay, how old am I?"
He removes his hands and says, "You are 47."
Stunned, the woman says, "That is amazing! How did you know?"
The old man replies, "I was behind you in line at McDonald's."
