I know you asked us not to say these things, but this is a serious issue and I dont think you should diagnose yourself just yet.
But if this is the route youre wanting to take, my mother swore by her progesterone cream for those night sweats. Im sorry youre feeling so crappy.

I'm 47 and pushing hard towards 48...meaning it's just around the corner
Not going to a Dr. is NOT the route I want to take it's the route I MUST take. Since I have no insurance. I can't afford to go to the Dr. and for 5 minutes of her time (and hour of mine) spend $65 for the pleasure then go to the RX and get whatever it is she wants me to "try" at god knows what cost. Those two alone would mean the differnce between keeping the lights on or not, eatting or not. I think I looked into the Low Cost Clinic up here once and was soooo disappointed in their 'customer service' or lack there of that I never even bothered to make an appointment. I was clearly putting them out by my inquiry

(their drug will improve the quality of life for congestive heart failure patients...stay tuned for that) I should also add that her husband is 6 years her junior.
The reason I'm relating this is because she has been going to an endocrinologist (hormone/metabolic doctor) for years to make sure her hormones are at a stable level. She's always trying to get me to go for various things. Your hormone levels affect so much of your mental health. I know the poster of this thread requested no doctors (I'm sorry you don't have insurance) but I just wanted to share because my aunt is the most together woman I know, so if you do have the means, you may want to check out a hormone specialist, not just a Gyno. She also just sent me this stuff she swears by from Life Balance Center, they are nutritional supplements that work with you neurotransmitters. She sent me this packet, I'm suppose to send in a urine sample and $300...hahahaha that's not going to happen, but it's always interesting to see what she's recommending next. It's working for her...

I had to laugh myself DJL at the spending $300 OUCH.

BBB, I to am 47 and my symtoms started a couple of years ago. I had a friend tell me to try Estroven. I picked it up at Walmart, but you can get it @ Raley's or Von's. (I get to max strength) it does help. It's all natural I also picked up the cream @ the health food store. Use it everynight before I go to bed. It seems to help too!! (If all else fell's Jagermister does help w/the not wanting to kill something)

Thank you for telling me about Estroven I think I'll try the Herb stuff first including the Black Cohosh a couple people mentioned. I just really need to control the mood swings and the real desire to choke the crap out of someone....that's the worst of the symptons I think...the getting warm at night well I switched to sleeping in shorts and a T-shirt instead of Sweats and I'm better with that. I'm sure the neighbors think I'm totally out of my mind when I take the dogs out in my shorts and it's cold out

Agree
A good Endocrinologist is a great start... and this md has great books that have been really informative and realistic. Helps to narrow alot of the guess work ...

Great books on her topics at library.
Also, Diana at Medical Dental Pharmacy - First and Nees In Fresno is really good and the facility is a compound pharmacy.

I hear you don't have insurance but you are going to have to spend funds somewhere either with supplements, good medical advice or other help. So you might want to consider good resources to start . EVery woman's body will process menopause slightly differently just like when we began....so dont waste money on remedies until you really research.
Books are free at the library and you can order from over 200 libraries in the San Joaquin Valley Library System at Oakhurst Branch.

Dragging this thread back up -
If you are experiencing extreme irritability, mood swings, anxiety, over whelmed, weepiness, and just a sort of "out of balance" feeling psychologically and emotionally, you might try increasing your B vitamins. Google info on B vitamins - they are water-soluble so it is hard to take too much - try just taking a B-50 or B-100 complex vitamin. You can get a bottle of 50 capsules of B-50 for under $10. Taking a couple a day with food, I started feeling better in just a couple of days.
Darn hormones. They can make you think that you are nuts, and you're NOT.
And I'd just like to mention that my husband is a saint.
Cause I'm not sure that I could put up with him on manopause

Along with the B vitamins, I have found that when I get Vit D deficient it also has a bog effect on my moods/outlook, (this was also backed up by endocrinologist and is something they are just now starting to study) so might try that too, and for women its very beneficial in many ways.
It still not as good as seeing your physician, but if yours is like mine it can take several weeks to be seen....

Regarding Vitamin B (uh oh, did I write this here before) -- Really important to get B-12 levels checked during a physical -- very common deficiency that can cause all of what Screen Porch lists and more... I saw an Oprah/Dr. Oz segment once that said "check your Vit. B-12" so I did and what do ya know, I was completely deficient. Had a monthly shot to get the levels up, they went up, now they're down again and I'm back on the monthly shots. Got one yesterday, much more energy already. Weird thing is the taste of metal in my mouth the second the shot goes in my... derriere.

Thanks for the feedback - when I finally get around to getting my physical, I will also be sure and ask about D and B12. In the meantime, it couldn't hurt to invest in a couple more bottles of vitamins...
